Bachelor of Architecture
Andrew Cook
The part time BArch course has allowed me to study & work in practice simultaneously. By following my own thematic areas of interest I have developed my own studio briefs including this one which linked the economical techniques from industrial architecture with systems for modular & sustainable living.
The “customised community” project combines efficient portal frame technology, to create a climate modifier, with a modular internal system that could be built and adapted by the inhabitants.
As a focus for my work I have entered & gained success in several competitions: Corus Steel (2nd place & £1000), Cisco-urban 2020 (Finalist), ACSA (4th place & highest international & individual entry).
Juggling a part time job with part time study is often tricky but offers many rewards, in particular the interchange of knowledge & skill sets between academia & practice which has proved invaluable to the development of my architectural career.
