BA (Hons) Three Dimensional Design

April Pebble Owens

Making up the structure of our cities, our walls are barriers between the natural world and us; they are also a strong symbol of our effect upon the earth. Although we create divides, these bricks are not enough to stop the adaptation of plants, they survive and their strength is unfathomable.

Using sculpture, photography, animation and video my work looks into the power of nature within urban and rural contexts. My practice is not confined by one medium and the materials are chosen upon reflection of the idea. The “Living Brick’ project worked with wet clay and seed. Studying the growth of the seed within the unorthodox medium; the clay symbolized mankind and the seed represented the natural world. In the future I intend to work within the design field, combining nature, art and the community.
