BA (Hons) Contemporary Film & Video

Damien Carlisle

Story matters.  The various collaborate roles behind making a film should each in their way convey the story and its themes to an audience and that is at the forefront of my mind when I write and direct, striving each time to further my understanding of film grammar.  Without a story, the audience has no reason to invest or care about the film.

I am drawn to areas of speculative fiction and horror, which my latest film 'Infinity's Edge' uses to explore mankind's oldest fear - the fear of the unknown.  I attempt to make a statement about our small place within an indifferent universe.  It is my hope that my ideas can stand out as something unique rather than the same usual stock student film subjects.

I've attempted to build an atmosphere of otherness, with a story that has more going on than what is simply on screen.
