BA (Hons) Textiles

Gabriella Sertori

With a strong interest in nature’s forms and textures, I have focused my work on bird’s nests, tree barks, and rural landscapes as main themes for my drawing project. Within this I have explored capturing distinctive qualities to express and further develop through my woven textiles for fashion. I have achieved successful results through the use of a personal colour palette by experimentally exhausting a range of dyes, for example indigo dip, rust dyeing, and various methods of post loom fabric manipulations. The combination of reactive yarns such as paper, metal blends, wrap spun and elastomeric allow shrinkage, further creating natural movements and double-sided three-dimensional fabrics. In parts my woven designs portray simplistic and elegant qualities inspired through my dissertation research of 1930’s Hollywood fashion in films. This forms an ideal basis for the fashion context my work is aimed at, with designers such as Chanel, Jaeger and Samuel Tweed in mind.
