By engaging the sitter in a thought process in which they have been asked to think of a confession, they were not able to control the manner of representation, allowing for the natural expressions and gestures related to this memory to be seen.

This is explored using both still and moving image, looking at how by having the conventions of a still portrait but extending the duration for which it is shown, it challenges the traditional concept of the portrait and explores the temporality of the pose.
