BA (Hons) Interactive Arts

Holly Mcguirk

I am a mixed media artist primarily interested in illustration, mainly aimed at children. My work is predominantly drawing but can often incorporate painting, collage and some digital art. I am influenced by my favourite children’s’ book and graphic novel illustrators, as well as architecture, novels, interesting objects, places and stories of all kinds. I like art to be something that I can hold and touch rather than on a gallery wall.

I like trying out new media, techniques and styles of drawing, varying between several styles to suit the feel of the writing. My work always contains notes of fantasy and often silliness and humour. I like creating characters and then building a world around them, or writing short stories or playful rhymes and bringing them to life with illustrations. I have written and illustrated two children’s stories and one story for adults and children.
