BA (Hons) Architecture

Tib Street is at a threshold between growth (Piccadilly Gardens) and decay (Ancoats). These are manifested on the site in physical and social forms. My project aims to address both these forms of decay by creating an educational organisation/library on a disused site.

These ideas of growth and decay were developed to be represented as volumes and voids within the building, This was greatly influenced by Thomas Schumacher’s “Contextualism: Urban Ideals + Deformations”, where he describes how a city can be formed of “solids in voids” or “voids within a solid”.
