The Great Indoors

The tradition of documentary street photography is as old as the medium itself. So too, in the form of the Victorian arcade, is the concept of indoor shopping streets.

As the rapid development of digital technology has been the greatest recent shift in the way of the photographer, the edge of town shopping centre has become a hub for the consumerist culture of modern times. These centres all follow the same essential design, all house the same basic shop set, and all provide the same contemporary experience of shopping as a leisure activity.

This work is a document of the homogenised experience of modern day consumerism.
