BA (Hons) Textiles

Kate Fenley

Inspired by individual responses I received from questionnaires around the idea of the home, enquiring about scenes or environments which make people feel at ‘home’. The drawing work I have produced in response to these have then become the basis for my design work.

My work is Illustrative in its nature combining hand drawn mark making with digital in order to build up my imagery. Pattern and texture have become quite a focus trying to communicate varying surfaces taking quite a flat method of production and challenging this to try and create a level of depth in order to produce more tactile imagery.

Influenced by illusion and the idea that things aren’t necessarily what they appear, the designs I have been producing playfully draw on the technique of trompe l'oeil. For my project I have produced a collection of designs for the interior of tents.
