'Embrace Music' is a platform for the performance, sharing and teaching of music. The design includes a 400 seat auditorium that overhangs to provide shelter to an external performance stage. The building creates a sense of enclosure around the courtyard, with a protruding 'circulation arm' forming a boundary on one side.
During the project, I focussed on how different user groups would use and circulate the spaces. Structurally, the overhang meant a concrete frame was the obvious choice. A continous larch cladding system creates a homogenous mass form.
Model making was the key feature of the 'Making Public Space' unit, and I used it to develop the form and massing of the building.
