BA (Hons) Photography

Laura Goldie

"Do something outragously bad if you like, but let it be freshly seen"

I began by embarking upon a genre that I had not experienced before, abstract still life. My aim was to create work that was more than a representation of a particular moment in time. I wanted to involve the viewer as an active participant in the work. I was largely influenced by Alvin Langdon Coburn, who, in 1916, predicted a new genre of ‘abstract’ photography and laid the foundations for a new era of art. Many camera-less photographers loosely affiliate themselves with the label of ‘photographer’. This is something that I have always related to as my work has rarely involved the use of a camera. Camera-less photography has the potential to create intricate minute details combined with majestic natural shapes. This was what I hoped to replicate in my own style.
