BA (Hons) Textiles

Rachel Edmond

My work is influenced by Cities that retain remnants of past Art and Design movements. The city of Barcelona has been one of the themes behind my work. From the decorative architecture of Antoni Gaudi to the bright, bustling atmosphere of each district. Another key influence was Miami and the Art Deco movement giving me exciting geometric and bright architecture to work with. With an interesting colour palette from the pastel buildings of Ocean Drive, to the influence from Cuba, to the glamour of the seaside, featuring reminders of a 1930s Americana. My designs are very much about print placement and digital collage techniques. I enjoy the playfulness of using quirky images in a surreal scale that contain a strong colour identity. By incorporating these elements together, I have produced a range of sophisticated prints on silk garments that present a relaxed tailored fit influenced by classic Rivera fashion.
