Rachel Victoria Clayton

My passion for designing prints for fashion has grown and flourished over this past year. Inspired initially by ‘anatomy’ my concept aimed to transform this extensively-used, sometimes gruesome theme into beautiful, feminine designs - my challenge was to add something unique. Anatomy evolved from skulls into cells, then unexpectedly to galaxies; inspiring my colour palette of smoky greys, blues, fiery reds, purples, and nudes. Influenced by vintage styling I incorporated my love for lace, integrating it within my designs. Large scales contrast against intricate, delicate originals, the combination of elements adding a new twist to the familiar theme ensuring my designs stand out from the crowd. Light and subtle, or dark and intense with bursts of bright colours, my designs are printed onto dip-dyed fabrics; luxurious silk; rich velvet; sheer georgette; or every-day jersey: created for garments that effortlessly ease their wearer through the day, into the evening and beyond.
