BA (Hons) Textiles

Sophie Ho

My collection takes inspiration from architectural designs and elements from my own photography of dissected plants in an attempt to explore the relationship between natural and man-made spaces. We often don't relate to our home as "natural" but by exploring the structure of plants and its design purposes, we can start to connect those elements with our own buildings. Fascinated by the structural qualities of knit, I wanted to not only focus on interesting textures and colours for my collection but to bring a sculptural element into it too. Experimenting with different materials like plastic gave me the advantage to be really creative and go beyond the flat textural plane to something more three dimensional and dynamic. Despite the fashion context of my work, my designs are also intended as gallery pieces and an insight of the possibilities to be translated into works of interior and architectural forms.
