My proposals reuse an old 1920’s cinema in Preston when there was a sense of grandeur and luxury to going to the cinema. The importance of the cinema has since been lost in today’s society and no longer provides the significance and experience of cinema and film. I wanted to create a building that would re-introduce the importance of film in today’s society. I have aimed to transform an old derelict building and transform it into a modern multi-functional building based around the idea of watching, learning, preserving and making film. New insertions have been designed to provide a contrast between the existing facade of the building and the new elements that project out beyond the existing fabric. The driving force has been based on preserving memories of the past building and referencing them within the new building to create a connection to the past and to emphasis the new.
