After a targeted investigation into the riots that occurred last summer it became apparent that Manchester was in need of some educational reform. My proposal acts to do this by providing a library with links to local schools, this allows for the continuation of homework clubs which would otherwise be cancelled due to the lack of government funding.

The scheme progressed into a facility to develop mind and body; the library would be accompanied by a gym and a swimming pool to create a local civic centre which would benefit all ages of people in the community.

The design, whilst intentionally alienating itself from the traditional appearance of a library, makes use of passive systems to naturally heat and ventilate the building to reduce both carbon emissions and its overall operating costs.
