Zlatina Spasova

Heavily industrialized in its near past, Collyhurst- an area in Manchester, has been left with a heritage of pollution and former landfill areas. My project aims to remediate the soil through planting of sunflowers that will extract the polluting chemicals over time and will be used as biomass in the project’s energy generation.

My programme is derived from the knowledge gained for the area’s earlier history during the 17-18th century and its consisting elements– green and fruitful lands; a Manor house and the entertainment land called Vauxhall Gardens.

My proposal responds to this by suggesting all underused or unapt for inhabitation housing to be demolished thus leaving room for greening/ farming the landscape.

It will also consist of a main hybrid building accompanied by 10 luxury bungalows spread within the site. Target user group are people from the affluent society and business people, which would heighten the standard of Collyhurst.
