BA (Hons) Textiles

Abigail Hutton

My appreciation for fine art has been a great influence in my practise of designing patterns for wallpaper. With the strong drawing skills that I have developed over my time at the Manchester School of Art, I wanted my digitally printed designs to reflect the feeling of having a piece of art on a wall, while still remaining both commercial and contemporary.

By using a range of media and techniques, my designs show diversity and a passion for keeping painterly qualities up to date with modern design. By combining elements of photography within my watercolour paintings, there is a subtle merge between reality and creative imagination. The larger than life florals connote a mood of optimism and are eminently influenced by British gardens; which are unique in the fact that the plants found in gardens of our country are quite often from elsewhere in the world.
