BA (Hons) Embroidery

Bella May Leonard

Using traditional hand-stitch techniques with modern technology and unexpected materials, my work explores the potential for hand embroidery as a contemporary form of ornamentation.

Inspired by historic domestic textiles and Manchester's urban environment, my practice questions the role of hand-sewn embroidery within our society. The sculptural stitched patterns embellish interior and exterior surfaces and spaces, emphasising the hand made.
