BA (Hons) Fine Art

Deborah Barrett

My work is predominantly concerned with sculpture. For development purposes in and around my practice I explore performance and film. This enables me to generate ideas that pull on thoughts and notions that expand on language that often goes beyond logic. The ideas that manifest are informed by the way in which I interact with others in everyday life. Mainly exploring the tension and ambiguity that are associated with gender, I am interested in the coping strategies that surround the subject and locate much of them with humour.

The actual making of the work mostly comes from a place of doubt, embarrassment and a fear of failure.

I am attempting to somehow connect to the world, by sharing my experiences to evoke various narratives that excites the viewer, raises questions and develop propositions.
