BA (Hons) Three Dimensional Design

Eleanor Fleming

My work has been inspired by the behaviours and habitats of colonial insects. I have studied the nature in which these insects live, swarm, and work together and as a colony they create a remarkably powerful visual impact. I work in ceramics to create organic hand built vessel forms. I aim to capture the fluidity of the swarming insects by using the placement of naturalistic texture on my vessels to create a sense of continuity and movement. The groupings of vessels indicate an interaction with one another and the idea that they can be seen as individuals or placed with others to create a larger sense of belonging. My intention was to make a selection of saleable pieces for the home offering diversity in scale, colour and price.
