BA (Hons) Three Dimensional Design

Emily Hughes

The motivation behind my practice is to add value and create a sense of preciousness with my pieces, by responding to found objects from the beach and combining them with precious metal. I elevate the weathered and vibrant qualities I see in the time worn found surfaces to create one-off jewellery pieces.  These qualities become intriguing for the wearer, encouraging them to reconsider the object and its history.
When searching for found objects, I select the textured, worn and rusted qualities that have, with time reveal shades of colour, which create a sense of wonder and excitement to me.
