Centre for Children’s Literature

MMU has procured a vast array of children's books, which constitute part of All Saints Library’s ‘Special Collections’. Presently the collection is fairly insular, and not widely accessed by students or indeed the public.

My final year project proposes a Centre for Children’s Literature, where the collections are made available for perusal, and displayed within a museum/exhibition environment. The scheme also provides a venue for the Manchester Children's Book Festival, ran by MMU; thereby ingratiating the burgeoning Northern-Quarter neighbourhood within the city's wider education network.

Children’s literature continued to influence the development of the project: material choices were inspired by the aesthetic of the Special Collections, whilst classic children’s book ‘The Secret Garden’ became an allegory for the retreat into the NQ, into the building and the immersive world of literature contained within.

I am currently seeking a Part I placement.
