BA (Hons) Embroidery

Lucy Martindale

Through my work I explore the theme of femininity and the manipulation of images. Using collage as my main technique, I create decorative and obscure illustrations. The combination of found imagery and detailed drawing allows for ornate reconstructions of the original images, creating both diverse and experimental outcomes. The use of witty composition allows me to portray more than just an image; it visually communicates with the viewer and sets up a narrative. A dark underlying theme runs through my work. This ominousness generally comes from a personal insecurity or belief, which is a main component of my practice
