BA (Hons) Textiles

Samantha Hall

My main inspiration was natural forms focussing on the arctic with my context being printed textiles for women’s fashion. I researched ice formation, the northern lights and landscapes which included a trip to Oslo, Norway. What attracted me to these elements was the richness of colour and mark making. My main aim was to communicate the fluidity and movement of the arctic within my prints.

I focused on creating my work digitally with the use of Photoshop and Illustrator. With these tools, I created designs for placement prints. As well as placement prints I have produced repeats that are geometric.

I have used my own photography to create my design work. I created my own ice and glow stick photo shoots as part of my drawings.  With the photography, I am able to achieve the level of colour I want to display within my designs.
