Charlie Birtles

Three Dimensional Design
BA (Hons)

My practice lies very much around the boundaries of art, craft and design; I produce conceptual art items, conveying a narrative, through employing making practices to alter the designed object.

My pieces are culminations of my object curiosity; a combination of everyday observations of the overlooked and reflections upon the designed object, both found and manufactured. Through altering, removing their utility function, their new use appears ambiguous and open to interpretation. I aim to encourage the viewers’ own curiosity, providing them with the tools to interrogate the overlooked beauties of the everyday.
