Joanna Louise Bentley

Fine Art
BA (Hons)

My art practice questions our perception of beauty and the grotesque and how we, as humans distinguish the two from one another.

The focus point of my recent work has been exploring the subject decay as a vehicle for this. Often using unorthodox materials to create my pieces, the development of my installations are beyond my control.

As time progresses, the decaying process advances creating what on the surface appear grotesque installations, yet how they are contained compliments the beauty of the works because of the detached element of smell and the ability to view them in a scientific way.
