Laura Hopkinson

Fine Art
BA (Hons)

My typewritten pieces consist of my own writing, although, it is non mimetic of myself. It is nonsense, it is meaningless, yet it is serious and unserious at the same time. Through focusing and dissolving language through abstraction, and presenting my pieces on a newsprint medium, I am working with my beliefs that nonsense and humour (and backflips) are an important part of art and life today, and I preserve and present it in an unhurried conclusive way. The concealed, square and boxed appearance, with the gridded paper, makes the space of my work become autonomous. And alike with concrete poets, I am aware of  space as a structural agent.
