Regardless of where we have grown up, or what sort of background we have come from – we have all spent a significant amount of our formative years, in school and inside a classroom. Our school years, then allow differences between us, to emerge. The children in the photographs, represent school children with prominent roles and responsibilities – children with leadership ‘Status’. I was drawn to the reasons why these children were awarded such roles. Was it for outstanding contribution to their school? Or was it for academic achievement? Or have they achieved their status, simply through their popularity? The viewer can decide. The pupils’ uniforms, add to their status and the classrooms and facial expressions of the pupils, provide some juxtaposition as to what their status, may mean to them.
