This work focuses on place and trauma, depicting several sites within the UK where people have been murdered. Effective in drawing emotion from the audience, these ‘picturesque’ images use the story of the crime that has taken place to create unexpected shock. Imperfections in the scenery create an uneasy and unsettling feel within the image.
My practice explores themes of death and crime, employing the relationship between image and text, to create an emotional atmosphere in my work that elicits a response in the viewer. These image-text works reveal background narratives that belie the visual aesthetic of the work, drawing from traditions of both documentary and landscape photography.
