“Objects surely don’t talk. Or do they?”

(D Miller)

I am drawn to the quality of objects to create a narrative through the sharing and revelation of hidden stories, looking to objects from both personal and public collections for inspiration. My current work is based on the importance of family objects and the memories they trigger of time spent living and travelling in Africa.

I enjoy the tactile qualities of the materials I work with, in particular textiles and paper, and the physicality of machine and hand stitch. The process of “making” is important and I enjoy creating the fabrics with which I work, through hand dying and printing. I stitch text into my work; enjoying the contemplation of individual words and phrases and the individual mark and beauty of handwriting.
