Textiles in Practice
BA(Hons)

Using a combination of print and embroidery processes, I created my final collection by challenging my use of colour, composition and texture to produce prints for the soft furnishing market.

Particularly inspired with the idea of combining the organic with the graphic, I produced these prints strongly influenced by the structure and the organic marks seen within insect wings. By abstracting forms and textures from insect wings, I digitally printed surfaces, which I then hand embroidered and beaded to express the texture and delicacy of the wings. Using heavy cottons with clustered areas of beading, I am able to think of the practicality these fabrics will have as a soft furnishing product.
