Fine Art

Selvage, a historical fusion of self + edge, is a word for both a geological zone of altered rock, and a finished edge of a piece of fabric which prevents it from unravelling. I want to consider that this embodies the idea of the walker, as self, walking along edges of coasts in a meandering line yet prioritising the interfacing between spaces: what lies neither inside nor outside the frame, but along it, and constructing an expanded landscape. Using video, performance and drawing as mechanisms to explore the rhythmic and meditative movements of the tide, I aim to capture the passage of time and create a sense of place.
