My practice explores the relationship between landscape and theatre, and the way light creates scenes within a landscape.
By using photography I can create performances within a landscape, allowing the audience to fully immerse themselves into the image. Through the use of flora removed from its natural environment, I have constructed sets reminiscent of theatre. The theme of the unfamiliar is present throughout my recent work and relates to Sigmund Freud’s concept of the ‘uncanny’. Aspects of modern theatre have inspired me to push the way an audience experiences the work, encouraging discomfort through unfamiliarity. By considering light, colour, form and space, I strive to exceed a normal viewing experience and strengthen the audience’s interaction with the work.
