The idea behind King Street Food Project was derived directly from community participation workshops, allowing design to be formed from real life needs and ideas. The project utilises waste food from local supermarkets, providing affordable meals, cooking classes and a variety of communal activities. It aims to heal the wound left within Stretfords centre after its original high street, King Street, was demolised to make way for wider roads in 1968. Inspired by local memories the buildings are based around orignial features and forms of the past, yet offering an alternative take on what a high street could (or should) be.
