Fine Art and Art History

My dissertation explored specifically the work of Vito Acconci and Hannah Wilke to understand the often absurd relationships between narcissism, gender and body art, and laid foundations for my studio practice, which runs alongside a questioning of what Lacan’s mirror stage means for human connection and empathy. I attempt to make visual my thoughts around whether it is possible for humans to feel connection whilst sealed within entirely separate bodies, and whether any felt connection is merely a result of narcissistic fabrication.

I use materials that are weighted with elements of the concept I am exploring at the time, and find human-like relationships between them. My practice is a continuing preoccupation with love, lust, perception, connection, narcissism and reality, through an absurdist lens.
