Three Dimensional Design

Place – Material – Object is a ceramic collection exploring material, history and culture from my hometown, the Mediterranean Island of Elba, Italy.  Sand inclusions from 16 individual beaches, added to the clay during the making process, show a journey through the geological diversity found across the coastal outline and its 8 small towns.

Colour palette, surface and form are combined to create a tactile translation of place identity, nature and atmosphere. The final collection includes objects made in response to local traditions of wine making, olive oil and honey production as well as the fishing and mineral water industries for which the island has been renowned for centuries.
