Textiles in Practice

The theme of travel has influenced my most recent design work; through the use and development of photography and drawing I have responded to the arid tones and textures from the Florentine architecture and in contrast to this a trip to New York city provided a livelier and more colourful palette from which to work from.  Alongside the colour, I have focused on the natural patterns and structures of the architecture within these cities, which has provided a great source of compositional reference.

As a woven textile designer, the most important elements of my research is the translation of colour and pattern into fabric design. I work intuitively on the loom when designing which has resulted in a range of sophisticated fabric collections suitable mainly for the interiors market. Post graduation, I would like to gain further work experience in textiles to broaden my knowledge of the industry.
