Gemma Barton

I am an embroidery and print designer with a focus on designing fabrics for fashion. I specialise in using digital embroidery with a combination of print to add depth to my sampling.

I’ve always been interested in extracting delicate detail from nature, exploring this with stitch and print. This collection started by using my own x-ray photographs of pressed flowers, then working with watercolour as my medium to convey the detail and delicacy. These watercolour paintings are explored on fabric, using a softer palette for my womenswear and a darker palette for my menswear; in order to collectively compliment each other.

My future intentions will be designer based, gaining experience from industry professionals, pushing the limits of fashion embroidery and approaching with fresh ideas in hope to become a freelance embroider/designer.
