Jessica Bewell

Fine Art

Through completive arrangements of ritual objects Jessica Bewell seeks to create a space in which notions of purification and reconciliation may be reflected upon.   Whilst the objects in her work may suggest symbolic and spiritual value, they refuse the opulence and oppose oversaturated environments, particularly those of western religion. Oysters represent early civilization, Vessels the rite of Eucharist. However, her work does not involve itself with the cosmological or ontological argument but looks towards the spiritual nature of human behavior.  The spiritual inclination of the work is informed by Celtic writing regarding homecoming and the self.  Ritual objects become activated through cleansing and repetition framed within a natural setting, this return to simplicity offering room for rumination.
