Essoldo 2: The Sequel

A study on the possibilities of updating the cinema typology to align with contemporary film viewing practices, with three 'alternative film viewing spaces' embedded within the design. The proposal connects the Essoldo cinema and local area to its past and present, through becoming a new gathering space and archive. To further address local context and needs, new housing is integrated into the design.

A key component of the project is exploring how the formalities linked with the cinema typology can be broken down and reconfigured, creating more informal spaces. This is partly achieved through the mixing of uses, to reduce the level of programmatic prescription.
