Fine Art

My work is concerned with the effects of colonial discourse on cross-cultural identity in contemporary society. I explore the ways diaspora effects identity, how technology has changed the way we perceive reality and the hybridity that arises within diaspora communities. I am interested in cross-cultural interaction and the formation of hybrids.

I seek to use art as a way to decolonize identity. I approach this by combining cultural and religious symbolism to embed my work in social and political context; to manipulate icons to suggest meaning and unearth stereotypes, and to decolonize identity by liberating it from the ‘fixity’ of stereotypes.
