Helen Birchall

Inspired by photographs I had taken on a trip to New York City, I have created a range of samples for a fashion context, which can be overlapped, connected and layered, working together, to mirror the dynamic, busy nature of New York City.

I have developed my concept through focusing on the architectural elements within the city, in addition to the grid layout on the street maps. I have challenged the expectations of the theme and made the images used almost unrecognisable and adding a sense of ambiguity.

Architecture and The City, is a common theme I have explored in many of my projects throughout my time at university and my practice takes an experimental, mixed-media embroidery approach to exploring a particular concept.
