Textiles in Practice

My practice mainly involves creating intricate and visually interesting embroidery designs for fashion. I like to bring traditional embroidery techniques and aesthetics into a contemporary setting, continuously experimenting with colour mixing through stitch.

I gather a lot of my inspiration from film. My final project was inspired by Vittorio De Sica’s 1963 Italian comedy ‘Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow’.

Drawing is a key part of my practice; I use it extensively in ideas development and visualisations. Another way I have used my drawing skill is in a recent live project which involved painting a site-specific mural onto a wall in a Bruntwood office space in Salford.

My aspirations are to gain work in the fashion industry within an embroidery context and to learn more about the possibilities of digital embroidery. I am also interested in art within the community and how I can use my textile skills to help people.
