‘A Family Away From Home’ is a photography project that documents a group of skaters who gather at Manchester’s Urbis park every day, repeating the same skateboard tricks over and over. As this project progressed, it became less about the wider skate subculture and more about the specific characters who inhabit this place. Megan’s integration into their world became a key element in capturing the essence of her subjects in her portraiture. This work aims to explore their relationship to Urbis as a place of belonging, and to document this new world they have created for themselves where they can escape the troubles of reality.
