Anab Mohamed
BA (Hons) Product Design and Craft
My name is Anab.I am a final year product design and crafts student, i enjoy painting, poetry and sculpting I enjoy the concept of surrealism in paintings and sculptures. My work explores the concept of biophilia, this topic has always intrigued me therefore, I have explored this concept through sculpture and loosely storytelling with the use of poetry. The surrealistic aspect of my work allows me to navigate through my creativity and create a sort of extra-terrestrial design of creatures that mimic a human like posture yet exhibit an obvious aesthetic of nature.
Poetry has been a powerful part of my project and has allowed me to express my message and raise my voice for a cause that I am passionate about. I have used the structure of spoken word to write my poems and I have used inspiration from the poetry culture in my Somali heritage called Gabay’. In that, Exploring the poetry culture within my Somali heritage and immersing myself in the poetry language has enriched my understanding of the culture and myself. I have taken inspiration from English literature as well as Somali literature, this has allowed me to see creativity across the different cultures, thus expanding my knowledge and curiosity for the subject.
I believe that the exploration and understanding of the relationship we have with nature can allow us to understand ourselves better and being in alignment with everything will allow peace and balance to flourish in our lives. Therefore, creating sculptures that embody this concept and challenge people to physically see themselves in nature - as one is what i aspire to achieve.
