BA (Hons) Textiles in Practice
Using colour and drawings as my main source of inspiration, I create knitted textiles, incorporated with print and mixed media, for an installation/set outcome. I have been exploring the aspect of dreams and surrealist art to create my own dream-like atmosphere using colour, shape, and the 3D form. For this, lycra has been my primary choice of yarn for its stretchy quality, combining in monofilament to give certain pieces more structure. As a textiles artist, I push my work and its possibilities through experimentation to explore as many paths as I can. Manipulation after the knitting process allows me to add another dimension to my work and, through stretching, lets the hidden aspects of the fabric I have created be seen. I like my work to be multifaceted and have a range of processes and layers to it before it becomes its finalised outcome, often using hand stitching to finish and refine. Being so hands-on through each step is important to me and my practice as it allows me to put myself into my work. My plans after leaving this course will be to attend New Designers to hopefully help me find the direction I wish to take.
