Florian Le Hunte

Florian Le Hunte embraces an intuitive, desire-led approach to art making inspired by 20th Century surrealist concerns with the subconscious. Their work is deeply rooted in queerness and the lives and works of queer elders, using the theory framework of queer time and shared cultural memory to connect to the freaks and perverts that have come before them. They are concerned with creating spaces that allow for trans bodies to desire and be desired, and to look and be looked at, exploring transition, kink and T4T relationships.

While this forms the majority of their work, since the start of 2022 they have been making work dealing with their diagnosis of heart failure the previous summer. Their work has become about grief and processing all that comes with a breaking down of the body. Leaning into the abject and gore, they have been producing painterly works - some using blood of the artist - leading up to their first performance work shown in the 2022 degree show, 'It's All in Your Heart'. This work is a culmination of dealing with heart failure both personally and artistically, and represents a moment of catharsis amongst the continuing struggle.
