Jude Sowter Allcock
BA (Hons) Fine Art
Jude Sowter Allcock’s degree show work forges new synergies from environmental and feminist craft contexts, creating a dialogue between the landscape and the female form. She looks at the changing states of the seaside and how this is echoed in our own bodies as we shift through life to death. The works act as a homage to the Herring Girls.
Sowter Allcock's more commercial works show an intuitive approach to quick drying acrylics resulting in soft textured movements and prominent displays of colour. She aims to create pieces that capture the unique essence of a day, place or season by honing in on the harmony of colour, light and texture all around us. Working solely with natural light, Sowter Allcock sees her paintings as dairy entries, looking back on and documenting the shifts in light, colour and mood throughout the year. Whilst her pieces vary in size and presentation, there is a notably constant lean into natural abstraction.
