Kai Edwards' artistic practice is rooted in soft sculpture, natural dyes and foraged organic material. Thematically, the work explores Queer Ecology and, in turn, the subversion of western heteronormative values. Curiosity consumes Kai when they work alongside nature - studying, ingesting, and foraging for mushrooms has recently become an important part of their art.
Kai is interested in the uncanny forms that mimic both nature and the human body, which question the audience’s perception of institutionalised classification systems of gender and sexuality. The queerness in Kai's work is more than just being LGBTQ, it is forging a kinship between, nonhuman entities like mycelium and the audience and artist to delve into more-than-human modes of existing.
